Manaiakalani Film Festival

Manaiakalani Film Festival

On Wednesday 12th of November St.Patricks school went to Hoyts, Sylvia Park. There were lots of other schools like Glen Innes, Stonefields, Tamaki College and more schools. We went there because there was a film festival and to enjoy the films.

When we arrived there the cinema was larger than I thought. There was a gigantic screen and lots of seats. Before the films started I felt bored and when the films started I was excited. Some films were funny and some were scary. My favourite film was the Hunger Games because it had great acting and lots of props.

When all the films were finished we left the cinema and went back to school. On the way back all the students were talking about the films. It was the best Manaiakalani ever.

Cool Cultural Festival

On Wednesday 17 of September all of Saint Patrick's School students went to the Hall. We went there to  celebrate cultural festival. We do cultural festival to raise money for Saint Patrick's School.

First my sister and I went to room 5 our the american pop group was. We went in and Mrs R told us to change to into our black clothes. I went into the toilets with my clothes and changed. After changing I went to make stuff with the glow sticks like necklaces, bracelets,  belts, and decorations for our hats. Then we went to walk to the Hall. On the way to the hall we were glowing.

When we arrived at the Hall I saw lots of people and I even saw the librarians that works at the Pamnure library. The american pop group sat for a few minutes and waited, then all the Saint Patrick's School students stood up and sang the national anthem with the Maori group dancing to it on stage and after the national anthem we turned around and sang the pacific greetings song. Then the Maori group danced to a really creepy Maori song they danced really good. Then the Maori group went off and Chinese Group went on stage. The Chinese group boys had to follow my classmate, Caleb since they didn't know the dance very well. After that the Tongan group went stage, they were wearing leave as clothes.

PhotoThen it was half time break. My dad bought me chips and a lemonade fizzy drink. My dad took lots of photos of my friends, Ace, Tristan, and I. We walked around talking to each other. Then we had to sit back down because it was almost time for the next dance.

After that the next dances were going to start. The European fusion were going to start. They danced very, very, very great they were almost better than our dance. When they were done it was my group turn to dance. I was very nervous but at the end I felt really proud. Finally it was the last groups turn, the Samoan group and when they danced every body in the hall was cheering out loud, they danced to very loud music, they were amazing, I thought they were the best group.

Then it was time to go home. My brother and I had lots of glow sticks. We played with them, they were really fun. I like cultural festival.

Mission of the Church

WALT describe the mission of Jesus and the Church

I know this because both Jesus and the church have the same mission because they both teach. Jesus teaches by telling people about God and the church teaches by telling people about the gospel story.

Both Jesus and the church has the same mission because they both serve. Jesus serve by serving the 5000 men and the church serves by giving out the bread and wine.

Both Jesus and the church have the same mission by forgiving. Jesus forgives by forgiving other people's sin and the church forgives by forgiving the children sin in confession or reconciliation.

This is a sketch of Saint Patrick's Church

What Do We Need And Want

WALT discribe the diffrence between needs and wants.

This is a picture of money.

It is a need because without money you can't buy food, water, clothes, shelter.

Body Parts in Maori

WALT identify the parts of the body in Maori and English.

I know I can do this when I can add all the parts of the body in English and Maori on Luke.
This is a picture of Luke with the body parts in English and Maori.

Need and Wants

WALT expain the difference between a need and a want.

I know this because a need is somthing that you have to use to survive.
A want is something that you don't need to survive.

We read the story A Chair For My Mother.

The chair in this story A Chair For My Mother is a want because they already have a chair to sit on. The chair is a want because the characters in the story can survive without a chair and they won't die without it. The chair is a want because when chairs were not invented people didn’t die. The chair is a want because when their house burnt down their chairs burnt and the characters were still alive. I know the chair is a want because the characters don’t need a comfortable chair to peel potatoes, watch news and sleep on.

Estimate and Measure

WALT estimate and measure in m and cm
Estimate means take a guess. Wen we estimate we use what we know then try to guess an answer as close as possible to the correct measument.

After we estimate we need to check to see if our estimation is correct.

To learn this we flew our planes.
My estimation was  13m 35cm.
My plane actually flew 1m 88cm.
My estimation was wrong.

Fly Questions

WALT create key questions about our mini beast.

We had to create 5 key questions that we did not know the answer to.

Open questions are questions that the answer has more than one word. I know the question is a open question because the answer is a paragraph or a full sentence. Open questions ends with question marks, they are used at the end of every question. Open questions also start with words like, who, what, when, where, why and how.

These are my key questions.
What do flies eat?
Whats the names of all the body parts a fly?
Where do flies live?
Who are the flies enemies?
How do flies grow to adults?

The Best Conformation

The Best Confirmation.
Have you been in a confirmation? On Sunday afternoon I went to the church to practice for the real confirmation. There were lots of people like my family, the priest and other children.Did you know that the confirmation is one of the seven sacraments?

First we practiced the responses. The children stood up straight. The priest asked six different questions. The responses were, “I do” and the sixth one was, “amen”. We had to practice again and again. The first practice was really, really, really, quiet then it got louder.

Then we did the anointing of the crism. All the children waited in a long, long, long line. When I  was on the altar my heart pumped and I was scared in front of all the people. The priest put his hand on my head. His hand was warm and soft. The priest ask me 2 more questions and I went back to my seat.

Then we talked about the real conformation. The priest said that on Tuesday is the real conformation. The priest also said Bishop Pat, the bishop of auckland is coming. We needed a loud voice  or the bishop won’t hear. We had to wear white clothes for the conformation.

Then we went home. I was extremely eager and excited for the real conformation. You should try going for a conformation and now I know whats it like on the alter.

WALT Write a recount of the experiment we did on Monday.

On a sunny Monday the junior school children walked to the teachers carpark. We went there for a experiment to see which habitat the mini beast would go in.

First we talked about mini beasts. Mini beast are small animals. They have no bones. Most have six legs, two antennas, two wings, and three body parts, the head, thorax and abdomen. We talked about lots of different kinds of outstanding mini beasts.

Next the teachers showed us the materials we were going to use for the habitats. Then the teachers let us feel the materials. The materials were a blue soft cloth a hard rock, a rubber tile, green bucket, newspaper and leaves.I didn't get to feel all the materials. After that the teachers set up the habitats on the grass behind the arts shed.

We had to pick a habitat which one the mini beast would go in.I picked the rock. Meanwhile the teachers told us we had to wait until Friday and see who picked the correct habitat.

The Water Treatment Process

The Water Treatment Process

The water from the Waikato River is not clean so it’s not safe to drink. It’s not clean yet and it’s full of rubbish that makes us sick.

First the water goes through a gigantic filter. A filter is something that has very tiny holes that the liquid and gas can go though but solid can’t go though.

Flocculation is when a chemical is added so all the dirt joins together. The Water is kept in a holding tank where the dirt get’s heavy and sinks to the bottom of the tank.

Filtration is when more chemicals are added to make the water clean. Air is use to get rid of all the small rubbish thats still in the water and it makes it smell good and taste good, this is called ozonation.

Chlorination is when a chemical called chlorine is added. It will destroy all of the bacteria thats still in the water.

Then the water goes to a water tower where all the clean water is kept. Next the clean water that was in the Waikato River goes through a pipe to your tap and is safe to drink.

Mother's Day Recount

WALT write a recount about Mother's Day.
I know I have done this when I can write what I did for Mother's Day.

On Sunday it was Mother’s Day. My family and I went to a Chinese restaurant to celebrate my Mum.

At the restaurant there was chinese food. There was so much food I couldn’t pick which one to eat. I picked pork on rice. It took a long time for the food to come.

When the food came I tried to use the chopsticks but it was hard because the food keep falling off my chopsticks. My sister asked the waiter for spoons and forks.

After going to the restaurant we went home and I gave my card to My Mum. When she read it she was happy she said “Thank you” and I gave her a hug.

It was the best Mother’s Day ever.
